🎬 At the Movies: Twisters

🌪️✨ New on the Blog

When the storms of life hit, what holds you steady?

This week, I’m reflecting on Twisters and the truth that no matter how strong the winds get, God whispers:

“I’ve got you.”

Finding Shelter in the Storm

Every summer, my church takes familiar stories from the big screen and holds them up to the light of the Gospel. Because truth is woven into every story—if we have eyes to see it.

This week’s film is Twisters, a gripping story of survival, love, and the power of surrender when life’s storms are bigger than we are.

🌪️ Movie Synopsis

Twisters follows storm chasers Tyler and Kate, partners driven by equal parts science and obsession. When an unprecedented system of deadly tornadoes threatens everything they know, they must face both the fury of nature and the realities of their own fears.

But in the chaos, they discover that trust, surrender, and love are the strongest shelter of all.

🕊️ Truth in the Twister

Jesus told us in Matthew 7:24–27 that storms are coming. They are part of life.
Relationships will shake.
Finances will waver.
Health will feel uncertain.
But what matters is where you’re standing when they hit.

🌿 1. “This building isn’t built to withstand what’s coming.”

This line reminded me of how often we try to build our lives on our own strength.
But without God, our foundations will always crack under pressure.

💛 When you enter a relationship with Him, you find shelter nothing can take away.

Psalm 91:1–2
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty... He is my refuge and my fortress.

🌸 2. “When you love something, you’ll spend your whole life trying to understand it.”

This line felt like an invitation.

If we love God, why wouldn’t we spend our days learning His heart?
Listening for His voice?
Building intimacy that can hold us steady?

2 John 1:6
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands.

🕊️ 3. “I’ve got you.”

When Kate finally lets go of the wheel in the middle of the storm, Tyler holds on and tells her, “I’ve got you.”
I thought about how often we grip the wheel of our lives in fear, certain it’s up to us to hold it all together.

But God is whispering the same words:

“I’ve got you.”

Psalm 46:1–3
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble... Therefore we will not fear.

🌿 Reflection

The storms that we face are not optional—but we don’t have to weather them alone.
When we focus on His faithfulness instead of our fear, we can finally release control and rest in the shelter He provides.

💛 Questions to Consider

  • Where are you trying to build in your own strength?

  • What would it look like to surrender your steering wheel?

  • What truth do you need to remember when the storm comes?

Read more reflections and join the journey each week as we discover the Gospel in the stories we love.
