From Wicked to Worthy: Standing Firm in the Truth of Christ
New on the Blog 🧹💚
Wickedness isn’t always what it seems. This week, we’re diving into Wicked—and how labels, lies, and public opinion can twist our identity. But in Christ, we’re not defined by the world’s categories—we’re redeemed, transformed, and made new.
đź’ What if being "wicked" in their eyes just meant being set apart in His?
“Wicked” & the Gospel: When Grace Dances With the Broken
There’s a scene in Wicked—a swirling, cinematic moment—where the dance isn’t just choreography; it’s transformation. Relationships shift, characters awaken, and stories unfold with more color than the Emerald City itself.
And it hit me—this is the Gospel.
Over 2,000 years ago, God didn’t just send a message or a miracle. He stepped into the dance floor of our broken world. A world of sin, shame, and awkward rhythms. Through Jesus, heaven invited earth to dance—not with perfection, but with redemption.
Jesus didn’t stay distant. He danced with us. And that dance changes everything.
Transformation Begins With Humility
Philippians 2:3, 5-8 reminds us that Jesus humbled Himself, taking on flesh, becoming obedient even to death. Paul challenges us to carry that same attitude—a posture of selfless love, even when the world teaches us to fight for power or cling to pride.
In Wicked, we meet the Wizard—not a wise, benevolent leader but a manipulator. He unites people by creating a common enemy. Sound familiar? He dehumanizes talking animals. He brands Elphaba’s green skin as wicked. He controls through fear and division.
But the Kingdom of God flips this entirely.
Labels Don't Define Us
Elphaba is misunderstood, misjudged, mislabeled. Her identity is shaped by what others see, say, and fear.
And isn’t that us, too?
How often do we absorb opinions and let them name us—too much, too little, not enough, unworthy?
But God... He calls us chosen, royal, holy, and His own (1 Peter 2:9-10). The Gospel declares that none of us are “good” in our own strength. We’re all broken—but in Christ, we are beloved. Not wicked. Not worthless. Worthy. Redeemed.
The Real Enemy
Culture draws thick lines between “good” and “evil.” But Jesus exposes the true enemy—not a person, not your past, not even your mistakes.
The real enemy is the devil himself, who thrives on lies, division, and discouragement (see Matthew 5:43-45).
But here’s the hope: he’s already been defeated.
On the cross, Jesus crushed the enemy once and for all. Now? We don’t have to fight for victory—we stand in it.
So, What Do We Do?
We stand firm. We stay rooted in Christ. We resist by resting in the truth of who we are and whose we are.
The Gospel is not just an invitation to be good; it’s a call to be transformed. To dance in grace. To stand in truth. To love even when labeled. And to remember: we are not the sum of the world’s opinion.
We are daughters of a King who stepped into the chaos... and made beauty out of the broken.
Journal Prompt:
Where have I allowed others to define me? How can I root my identity in what God says instead?
