✨ Unwrapping the Names of Jesus: Wonderful Counselor

Christmas is beautiful, but it can also be complicated.
The season is full of lights, traditions, and celebrations — and yet underneath all of it, many of us carry questions, burdens, or quiet aches we don’t say out loud.

It’s no surprise, then, that one of the first names given to Jesus in Scripture is Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6).

Israel heard these words while standing in the middle of danger, fear, and instability. They weren’t waiting for a holiday —
they were waiting for hope.

And God answered with a promise:
A Savior would come.
A Messiah would be born.
A Counselor would draw near.

🌿 Counselor: The One Who Brings Wisdom

When Isaiah called Jesus Counselor, he wasn’t describing a distant advisor, but Someone who brings wisdom into our lives.

The world had tried its own wisdom — and it failed.
People didn’t just need “better thinking.”
They needed presence.

It’s like when kids are playing in the next room.
They’re wrestling, jumping, squabbling — and nothing you shout from the hallway works.
But when you walk into the room, everything changes.

Presence settles chaos.
Presence restores order.
Presence brings peace.

That’s why God didn’t just send a message —
He sent Himself.

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” – John 1:14

Jesus is the Counselor who steps into the room.
Into our confusion.
Into our fear.
Into our broken places.
And His wisdom doesn’t just inform — it transforms.

Wonderful: The Grace That Takes Our Breath Away

The word wonderful reminds us that grace isn’t something we earn.
It’s something we receive — with awe.

Think about Christmas gifts:
You write your wishlist, but someone else pays the price.
It’s not transactional.
It’s not earned.
It’s a surprise — a delight — a generous act of love.

The best gifts always are.

That’s why grace feels uncomfortable at times.
We prefer things we can control, balance, repay, or justify.
But grace isn’t manageable — it’s miraculous.

And Jesus is the miracle.

🌟 A Counselor Who Understands Your Need

Hebrews 4:14–16 tells us that Jesus is not distant from our weakness.
He is not unapproachable.
He is not unmoved.

He sympathizes.
He knows.
He understands.

Which means whatever brought you to this season of need —
fear, uncertainty, grief, exhaustion, waiting —
you can approach Him with confidence.

Not because you’re strong,
but because He is gracious.

💛 The Wonder of Christmas Is This: You Have a Wonderful Counselor

If you feel lost, He will lead you.
If you feel broken, He will hold you.
If you feel confused, He will guide you.
If you feel weary, He will steady you.

This Christmas, may you experience the wonder —
not of a perfect season,
but of a perfect Savior who steps into every season of your life.

A Prayer for Today

Jesus,
You are my Wonderful Counselor.
Thank You for stepping into my world with wisdom, grace, and presence.
Help me trust You in my places of need and come to Your throne with confidence.
Let me experience the wonder of Your nearness in fresh ways this Christmas.
Amen.
