đź’Ť More Than Wedding Words: The Real Story of Love
I still remember standing across from my husband on our wedding day, listening as 1 Corinthians 13 was read aloud — “Love is patient, love is kind…” Words I’d heard a hundred times before suddenly felt brand new in that moment. Like many couples, we chose those verses because they beautifully capture what love should be. But what I’ve learned since that day is that Paul didn’t write them as a poetic backdrop for ceremonies — he wrote them as a wake-up call.
When he penned those words, the church in Corinth wasn’t walking in love. They were comparing spiritual gifts, competing for importance, and losing sight of what truly mattered: grace, humility, and love for one another. And if I’m honest, I see myself in that sometimes too. It’s easy to focus on achievements, appearances, or what we bring to the table — but without love, none of it matters.
“Love is patient. Love is kind.” These aren’t just pretty phrases — they’re a picture of who Jesus is. Love isn’t a feeling that comes and goes; it’s a person who shows up, stays, forgives, and keeps on choosing us. And that’s the kind of love we’re called to reflect — in our marriages, friendships, communities, and even in the hard moments when it’s not easy to love at all.
Relationships won’t always meet our expectations. Promises get broken. People fall short. But the good news is, we have a love that never fails — one that holds steady when everything else changes. Faith will one day become sight. Hope will one day be fulfilled. But love? Love lasts forever.
So today, as I look back on our wedding day, I’m reminded that this story — our story — is about so much more than vows and verses. It’s about learning to love like Jesus every single day. ❤️
Take a moment this week to reflect: how can you show a love that endures — not just on special occasions, but in the small, ordinary moments too?
